The New Mix 103-7's Extraordinary Woman of the Month campaign will honor women in Richmond who are extraordinary in many different ways! Every month, The New Mix 103-7 will accept nominations of Richmond's Extraordinary Women on mix1037.com or through entry forms in Richmond Times Dispatch. Each month's honoree will receive a special bracelet that The New Mix 103-7 and Capri Jewelers have designed to serve as a symbol of honor for the extraordinary women in all of our lives- Virginia's Hope Bracelet.

"Virginia's Hope Bracelet" holds a special place in the heart of Chris DeCapri, owner of Capri Jewelers. The bracelet is named after an extraordinary woman who demonstrated unfaltering hope many times in her life. Virginia DeCapri, supported her young son, Chris DeCapri as he battled cancer. Her love and hope played a major role in his recovery. Sadly enough, in 2002, Virginia lost her battle to leukemia. She is Capri's Extraordinary Woman.

Virginia's Hope Bracelet is a custom-made Sterling Silver Cable Link Bracelet with a 2 Carat Blush Pink Topaz. This one-of-a-kind bracelet will be sold at both Capri Jewelers locations- in Short Pump Crossing and Virginia Center Commons. The bracelet is $395, with 20% of the proceeds to benefit a women's charity. This month's proceeds will benefit American Cancer Society.

Martha Slay is my boss, the founder and president of FightSMA . FightSMA is a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to finding a cure for Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), the number one inherited killer of babies under three. Martha and her husband Joe founded FightSMA in 1991 after receiving the diagnosis of their son, Andrew. Back then, it was known as Andrew's Buddies. Now, FightSMA boasts 19 chapters in the US and Canada and is in development talks to found FightSMA Australia. In addition, Martha also created the Fighter Mom program, a program for ANY mom fighting ANY childhood disease or disorder. Using what she's learned from the successes (and failures) of FightSMA , Martha created a community and manual for these spectacular mothers, and gives them the tools they need to go to battle for their kids.

Martha is truly an extraordinary woman. She goes above and beyond the call of duty. She is a Fighter Mom, an advocate, and a hero. She is THE Extraordinary Woman!
